The Aga Khan Foundation USA takes your privacy very seriously. This notice describes AKF USA’s privacy policy as it relates to the www.akfusa.org and www.akdn.org websites (collectively, the “Website”). By visiting the Website, you are accepting the policies described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this Privacy Policy, you are not permitted to use the Website. AKF USA may revise this privacy policy from time to time. We will post any changes here, so please check back periodically.

Collection of Information

AKF USA may ask for and collect personally identifiable information from you at various points throughout the site. Depending on the information and/or services you request, you may be asked to provide your name, email address, address, phone number, payment details, and similar information. Once you provide your personal information, you are not anonymous to AKF USA. You may opt out of e-mail communications at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link that is included at the bottom of every email communication from AKF USA.

Security of Personal Data

Donor Data: AKF USA’s donor data is stored in a cloud-based database which resides at a third-party vendor’s premises. Access to the database is limited to the Foundation’s staff and volunteers. The data can only be accessed through a secure firewall by an individual with a username and password, and who has been given access to the database.

Personnel Data: AKF USA stores all personal information on a secured server. Information on personnel is stored in a dedicated and secure drive with access limited to the senior staff responsible for overall operations. Documents from staffing and volunteer recruitments, and staff traveling abroad are also stored in a dedicated and secure drive with access limited to the senior management team.

Use of Online information

AKF USA uses the information we collect about you to send you communications such as our e-newsletter and various printed publications or mail appeals, and to help administer and improve our web sites. We do not sell our organization’s contact lists third parties.

Use of Cookies

Cookies are small text-only files that are stored on your computer and that can be used to help identify you when you visit our Website. A cookie cannot read data off your computer hard disk, nor can it read cookie files created by other websites. We may use cookies to make visiting and using our site easier, for instance, so that you do not have to continually re-enter information.

Credit Card information

This Website is not directed toward children under 13 years of age nor does AKF USA knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you are under 13, please do not submit any personally identifiable information to AKF USA.

If you provide notice to the address below, we will provide you with a notice of your right to prevent sharing of your personal information as well as a cost-free means of doing so. Who AKF USA shares the information with

AKF USA generally does not share your name, postal address or email address with any other organization. AKF USA may share your information with third parties in the following situations: a) to complete your request, b) to outsource one or more of the functions described above, or c) to share your information with the authorities in response to a legal order or official request, or when we believe you have acted in violation of our Terms of Use.
