We are thrilled to continue #humansoftheworld, tales we can relate to and marvel at. Throughout this series, we share stories of appreciation, self-reliance, and strength from across the Aga Khan Development Network.

We all have a purpose. Driven by our belief in our shared humanity, we are dedicated to helping all people fulfill that promise for themselves. This #GivingTuesday we launched our end-of-year giving season to raise $500,000. Together, we raised over $410,000! Though we were a little short of our goal, our generous donors’ support will go toward partnering with communities across Africa and Asia to build better futures together.

#GivingTuesday is a way for all of us to come together and make a real impact. Following Black Friday and Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday inspires people to take collaborative action to improve their communities, give back in better, smarter ways to the charities and causes they support. #GivingTuesday is a movement to help create a better world.

As part of our #GivingTuesday and the end-of-year giving season, we launched #humansoftheworld, featuring tales from around the Aga Khan Development Network that we can identify with and marvel at. From Texas to Tanzania and Afghanistan to Maryland, we start with four stories:

These stories of appreciation are written by those impacted by your donations. Thank you for caring and thank you for giving. We need you now more than ever. In this season of giving, support self-reliance and strength.

Thank You to Our Matching Donors!

We’d like to specially thank our #GivingTuesday matching donors who generously pledged to match up to $21,000 on our first day:

  • Zahara Alarakhia: “I support AKDN because of its determined commitment to the improved welfare of the most disadvantaged communities, including the support it provides to hundreds of volunteers globally.  I am grateful for AKDN’s programs and am hopeful we can all come together to build on the continued success of AKDN through the matching gifts.”
  • Irfan Dossani, CPA, PLLC: “We have been proud supporters of the Aga Khan Foundation for many years now.  We believe in the foundation’s work and philosophy.  AKF is a unique organization that goes beyond providing emergency help as a reactive measure, but it actually strives to proactively help communities with sustainable skills that will help them grow and prosper.  We believe that the work AKF does goes way beyond any other organization or country’s effort in helping our world become a healthy, happy, prosperous, educated and peaceful place.  It is also a huge plus to know that 100% of our donations are used toward the foundation’s work.  We hope that you will join us in our support of AKF.  Thank you!”
  • Alan Arman: There are few things in life more heartwarming than knowing there are people out there that genuinely care beyond themselves and want to make the world a better place for their fellow human beings. Having been on the receiving end of that generosity during my early adult life changed me forever and made me a believer in the goodness that is seeded deep within every one of us. I believe in the mission of AKF and have seen its impact first hand where it’s needed the most. I ask you to join me in spreading goodwill and helping AKF advance its mission.
  • We’d also like to thank our anonymous donor.
