ORLANDO, FLORIDA, SEPTEMBER 22, 2015. On Sunday, September 20, 2015, approximately 1,600 Orlando residents moved to invest in long-term solutions to global poverty. The annual Aga Khan Foundation Walk Orlando, an initiative of the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) to raise awareness and funds for programs that work with communities around the world to build better futures, raised more than $200,000. All of the net proceeds go directly to projects supported by the Aga Khan Foundation.

The charity event attracted a range of local leaders and personalities, along with sponsors across the metro area including national sponsor, The Coca-Cola Company, eager to help communities in some of the poorest areas of Africa and Asia improve their quality of life.

“When you look at the work of the Aga Khan Foundation,” observed Rasesh Thakkar, a leading investment manager in Central Florida at the event, “it is clear that this organization is grounded in the universal principles of love and a firm belief in a shared humanity, the collective family that we all are.”

The contributions raised at the Walk make a tremendous impact in creating locally driven opportunities for girls in Afghanistan to attend school, farmers in Mali to feed their families, and mothers in India to lead healthy lives. These are the cornerstones of a thriving community. To learn more about what we do, visit www.akfusa.org
